Out with April and in with May

Where in the world did the month go? I swear April just started! It is a little unnerving how fast time flies for me these days. I remember when I was young and I could not wait until summer vacation and the time just seemed to drag. As an adult time seems to be the one thing that I don’t have enough of. I was thinking about Marianne today and the fact that Baby Girl will be here in a matter of weeks. My mind went back to when she announced to the family in November that she was pregnant and that she was due the end of May. At the time May seemed so far away but here it is knocking on our door and we’ll have a new baby in our family before too long. Crazy! I need more time!

I wonder if there is a way to slow the summer down? September is going to be here all too soon accompanied by cold. *sigh*

I Heart Alias

I have my favorite television shows that I like to watch on DVD and right now I am re-watching all five seasons of Alias. Several years ago my friends and I used have Alias parties where we would congregate at someone’s apartment and we’d watch a disk or two of a season and then we would watch the current episode. It was always hard to turn it off. And we always had to abide by “Matt’s Rules of Order” which meant that you couldn’t talk or ask questions during the show. Yeah, those were some fun times during the Royal Farms Apartments days.

Right now I am in the middle of season two, which in my opinion is the best season of the five. It also seems that I have forgotten how much I love Alias because I can’t seem to get enough. I start watching a disk and I have to make myself turn it off so that I go to bed at a timely manner. And because I watch it at night it totally influences my dreams. I know that I had an Alias type dream last night though I really don’t remember the content of the dream. This used to happen to me when I watched a lot of Lost and I know this happens to a couple of my siblings (right Mike and Mar?).

If you haven’t ever watched Alias and you are looking for an action packed show to watch you may consider giving this one a try. After I am done with Alias I’m going to start on Moonlighting. Ah, good times.

Arches 2008

Last weekend the crazies (the Sloan siblings) went down to Arches for some camping fun. My roommate Becky and Mike’s best friend Jeff (or Jeffe) also came along for the fun. The campsite was awesome and we managed to have fun even with the rip roaring wind that hindered some of the things that everyone wanted to do. The epic light saber battle that Dan had been referring to all week commenced almost immediately after the boys rolled in to camp. Man, that was funny to watch. We also spent a little time at The Windows which proved to be manageable in the wind. And thanks to Jesse for bringing the awesome tent; it was a cool place to hang out.

When we got home yesterday we were wind blown/sand blasted, filthy, and sunburned. Some of us are burned worse than others (especially on the knees). I have an awesome outline of the band-aid I had on all weekend (I fell and skinned my knee Friday night). Yeah, I’m cool! Enjoy the pictures.

Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero

After months of hearing about these two games, I actually had the opportunity to play (not just sing or observe others playing) them last night. Every now and then I get the opportunity to hang out with my good friend Nate and last night was one of those opportunities. We work together but we spend very little time together socially so I always enjoy the times when we hang out. So, the plan last night was to essentially do dinner and a movie at his place. So, I grabbed Café Rio on my way over and we watched The Italian Job (since I had never seen it before). I loved the movie but it was nothing compared to the fun that happened after the movie…Guitar Hero.

We actually started with Rock Band but I was really having a hard time so Nate switch over to Guitar Hero. I had never played this game before so needless to say I was intrigued and a little nervous to play since I know that Nate has been playing/practicing for months. But even though I totally stink, I still had fun. I guess it’s good that I can laugh at myself because if I don’t think I would have had near as much fun. And Nate was a total blast to play with. He even did poorly on purpose so that I could have at least one good round (my personal best was 75%) and not feel so discouraged. Thanks buddy! I guess I learned a couple of things, the first being that I really can laugh at myself and the second is that I really need to work on my hand-eye coordination. Man! I guess it’s a good thing that I can be my goofy self with my friends and feel completely comfortable. I am a lucky girl!

So, which do you like the best, Rock Band or Guitar Hero? I think I could become addicted to Guitar Hero if I got the chance.

I wanted to post a couple of pictures of the girls night out that we had a couple of weekends ago. It has become a tradition over the past years to get together as girls and go to dinner during the Priesthood session of General Conference. This year Rebecca (my cousin Emily’s baby girl) joined us for the feast/birthday celebration for Marianne at Texas Roadhouse and she kept us all entertained. She is so dang cute! In October Baby Girl Knight will join us for the fun! We are so excited because girls rule!

Am I Going Crazy?

Some of you know that I have been hearing this scary voice in my room at night. Actually I have only hear "The Voice" twice but that is two times too many! My family thinks that my house is haunted but I have a feeling that it may all be in my head. But "The Voice" is much more scary than one that I could ever conceive on my own or at least I think so. "The Voice" is deep and totally demonic. In short, it is freaking scary! I have spent a little time since then wondering if I was the only one who had freaky experiences like this and I conceded that I’m not. Then on Friday one of my co-workers related an experience that she had had with a ghost earlier in the week and I got to talking with my team about the voice I hear at my house. I hate to talk about it because it’s so scary to me but it was nice to know that I was not alone and that others have scarier stuff happen. I mean, at least I am not seeing ghosts. So now I make sure that I say my prayers every night and fall asleep with some sort of church music on. I just want the voice to go away!

In any case, I was taking to my good friend Nate about this on Friday and he suggested that I post this craziness and see what others may say. I am open to comments….

Spring Blues?

I wish I were in Hawaii right now!!

I know that spring in Utah can be pretty unpredictable. So, I was not that surprised that by the time I got to work this morning the rain that was falling had turned to snow. What the??? This winter was long and hard for me so I am always am a little sad when it snows now. I mean, in my mind April means sun and rain; not snow. And I am sure that I was not the only one bummed by the snow this morning. My mom told me earlier today that my youngest brother Shawn was scowling as he cleaned off his car this morning to go to work. I’m not surprised. Shawn’s mood is intensely connected to the weather more than anyone else I know. We noticed it the most when he was on his mission. When it was sunny and warm he was happy as a clam and when it was cold and dreary he was much less cheery. I understand a little; I am happier when the sun is shining. So, cheer up Shawn; it’s supposed to warm up as the week goes on. Looking forward to the potential 70’s next Monday!

It Takes Courage

I often go to movies alone. I work down the street from the Megaplex 20 at the District so it is convenient for me to catch a movie right after work. I saw Penelope last Friday and really liked it. It’s a little girly but the moral of the story was one that I needed; you need to love yourself just the way you are.

Anyway, I was contemplating going to see Leatherheads after work today and I remembered the first time I went to a movie all by myself. All of my friends were going to see War of the Worlds, which I had no interest in seeing, so I went to see the new Batman movie. I was a little nervous at first, especially since the movie was packed but once I sat down (in between two groups of people) I realized that no one noticed or cared that I was there alone. I can’t tell you how liberating that moment was for me. Now I go to movies by myself all the time. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy going to movies with other people but sometimes it’s just easier.

So, to those of you who think I’m nuts or think to yourself “How can you do that?” I challenge you to try it, just once. You might surprise yourself. :)

Hopping on the Blogging Wagon!

I have been mulling this over for a couple of months (ever since my good friend Matt Reading asked if I had a blog) and decided that it was time to jump on to the blogging wagon. It seems that almost everyone I know has a blog and it seems to be a great way to keep up to date with the goings on in my friend/family's lives. For the longest time I felt that my life was not that exciting and as a result not worth writing about but as I have been considering the idea of a blog, I started to notice the things that happen in my life. And guess what? I may be wrong. There are some weeks when I have blog worthy things happen almost everyday. Now, I may have dry spells but I’ll try to be diligent in keeping this thing updated. And, thanks to by brother Steven, I now have a camera that I can carry with me so that I can take pictures whenever the opportunity presents itself. I won’t promise spectacular things but you may get a good laugh from time to time. So, check back often for updates. Enjoy!
